Yakumo Corporation (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Hideyuki Funaki) has developed a single, 2-way AMD (active mass damper) for high-rise buildings that can reduce wind sway in high-rise buildings at low cost and in a small installation space.
Wind sway in buildings has become a serious issue for residents and users of high-rise buildings in urban areas in recent years. Perceived and prolonged roll motion not only causes uneasiness and discomfort, but can also cause motion sickness-like symptoms that interfere with work in offices and significantly affect the asset value of buildings, such as loss of comfort in hotels. An effective way to counteract such wind sway is to install vibration control devices (AMDs) on rooftops and other locations that control the vibration mass and dampen the rolling of the building.
Based on the know-how we have accumulated through wind sway countermeasures for mid-rise buildings, we have developed a large vibration control device (AMD) for high-rise buildings with a maximum vibration mass of 100 tons, capable of vibration control in two directions (X and Y) with a single unit to reduce cost, installation space, and maintenance load.
